Art from Ashes

Art from Ashes exists to empower struggling youth by providing creative programs that facilitate health and hope through expression, connection and transformation. These youth empowerment programs allow marginalized young people to express their creative genius through poetry and spoken word; visual and tactile art; and drama and creative play, in a non-judgmental space with caring adults and community artists.

AfA’s pre and post surveys, conducted on youth in the Phoenix Rising program since 2009, show that the workshops develop youth connections to their communities and produce in youth a deeper belief in themselves and their potential, leading to improved social and emotional skills and behavior. AfA’s youth empowerment programs are fundamental to providing the self-value and motivation necessary for youth to take advantage of educational opportunities, job and career counseling, drug and alcohol rehab, and mental health services.

Children’s Treehouse Foundation

The Children’s Treehouse Foundation is the nation’s only organization providing group-based, manualized and internationally delivered, psychosocial intervention developed specifically to support the emotional needs of children with a parent or caregiver who has cancer. Cancer affects the entire family, yet too often, the undeniable psychosocial impact on the children goes unattended, which may lead to ongoing stress and anxiety for the children, evolving into maladaptive behavior throughout life. Children’s Treehouse Foundation works to correct this oversight, so that children learn how to cope with their feelings, parents become aware of richly improved family communications, and facilitators know, in their heart of hearts, that the trauma and travails of the family are measurably reduced.

Denver Gives

Denver Gives is a 501c3 dedicated to providing free nonprofit resources to the smaller charities in our community. With over 5,000 small nonprofits in the Greater Denver Metro area, nonprofit resources become scarce. Things like funding and volunteers are obviously hard to find, but what is even harder to find is time. Time to look around and find the resources that can help move an organization forward. Knowledge is power and Denver Gives is dedicated to helping our small nonprofits find the knowledge they need to succeed and meet more of our community, all FREE to the small local nonprofit!

Since 2010, Denver Gives has dedicated itself to learning about the needs of the nonprofit community and as we continue to move forward, we hope that we can further our cause by collaborating more with other nonprofit community resources to develop a tiered resource system where the best of the resources available are provided and/or offered appropriately and timely to the nonprofits as they grow.

Edge of Seven

Edge of Seven works differently to provide opportunities for girls’ education in the world. Rather than merely building a classroom and celebrating, they learn from rural communities, who in turn, learn from them. Encouraging communities to build up their own school ecosystem, EO7 supports their planning to make it last. At the end of the day, week, month, year, decade, or generation, EO7 believes that their support should strengthen people as much as constructing a building. This organization’s efforts inspire individuals, communities and entire districts to take on their own development, training, and prepare for whatever their next challenges may be. Currently, EO7 is focusing their work in Nepal and Kenya.

Rachel’s Challenge

Rachel Joy Scott was the first person killed in the Columbine High School shooting on April 20, 1999, but that was only the beginning of the story and the beginning of Rachel’s Challenge. Her vision to start a chain reaction of kindness and compassion is the basis for our mission: Making schools safer, more connected places where bullying and violence are replaced with kindness and respect; and where learning and teaching are awakened to their fullest. Rachel’s Challenge programs provide a sustainable, evidence-based framework for positive climate and culture in our schools.

Re:Vision Coop

Re:Vision cultivates thriving, resilient communities by working with people in economically marginalized neighborhoods to develop resident leaders, cultivate community food systems, and create an economy owned by the community. Many low-income communities stay in poverty because they don’t have a strong, local economy that they own. Re:Vision partners with neighborhood men and women, and trains them to become resident leaders who engage families in growing food in household yards. Each garden can feed a full family, with enough produce for additional distribution, canning, and retail. Re:Vision has also created the Westwood Food Co-op to increase access and affordability of fresh, healthy food, while empowering community ownership and increasing community wealth.

The Women’s Bakery

The Women’s Bakery offers women access—access to business education, life skills, and applied baking and nutrition skills. From this, social and economic empowerment are born. That’s conscious capitalism.

Through education and vocational training, women learn to source local, nutritious ingredients to produce and sell affordable breads in their communities. Groups of women invest in our training fee and the appropriate bakery start-up costs. Once their bakery is in business, all profits are the women’s own.

Today, we’re working with women in Rwanda and Tanzania.
